EMUI 9 beta: Huawei and Honor users can now sign up to test Android Pie

Here’s one last big story coming out of IFA 2018: Huawei just announced the availability of its beta program for Android Pie-based EMUI 9.

Users of select Huawei devices can join the beta program for EMUI 9, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie and brings improvements focusing on speed and simplicity. The Pie beta is open to users of the following Huawei phones:

  • Huawei Mate 10
  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei P20
  • Huawei P20 Pro

Huawei sub-brand Honor is joining in the fun with the:

  • Honor 10
  • Honor View 10
  • Honor Play

It’s not clear at this point which markets this EMUI 9 beta program is available in. Huawei may also choose to limit the number of users it accepts in the program, so if you’re interested, continue reading to get started.

How to join the Huawei Android Pie/EMUI 9 beta

To join the beta program for Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9, you need to follow these steps:

  • Go to Huawei’s Friendly User Test page
  • Download the Huawei Beta app by clicking on the Download button
  • Install the app, accept the Terms & Conditions, and sign up for an account in case you haven’t before
  • Go to Personal > Join project
  • Select the EMUI 9 beta program
  • Click Sign Up

After you do this, you should receive the necessary OTA update to get you started with EMUI 9.

Update: We’re receiving unconfirmed reports that compatible Huawei devices such as the Mate 10 aren’t yet seeing the EMUI 9 beta to download, let us know if you’ve been successful in downloading the all-new update.
