Deal: Get the Pixel 2 XL on Verizon for $549

Even though Google is set to announce the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in less than a week’s time, the company continues to sell the still-excellent Pixel 2 XL for at least $849. That is a bit too much for a phone that old, though Best Buy discounted the Verizon version of the Pixel 2 XL if you want to save some money.

For a limited time, you can go to Best Buy and pick up the 64GB Pixel 2 XL on Verizon for $22.91 a month for 24 months. If you want more storage, you can get the 128GB variant for $24.99 a month for 24 months. Based on the discounts, you can get the 64GB and 128GB Pixel 2 XL for $300 and $350 off the normal price, respectively.

If you want to buy the Pixel 2 XL outright, it will still cost you $849 for the 64GB version and $949 for the 128GB model. If you are at that point, you might be better off with the unlocked version.

Then again, a savings of $300 is not a small amount to retain in your wallet. Also, if you are either an existing or soon-to-be Verizon customer, and plan to stick around with Big Red for a while, the 24-month payment plan will likely not make you flinch.

The advent of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL might make you stop and think. However, the Pixel 2 XL will continue to get updates directly from Google for another two years. That means, in addition to Android 9 Pie, the phone will get monthly security updates and updates to Android Q and R until October 2020.

Alternatively, you can still pick up the smaller Pixel 2 if you are used to using smartphones in one hand. Keep in mind that Verizon no longer carriers the Pixel 2 (via Droid Life), so your only options are either Google or Best Buy.
