Easily book an Uber or Lyft using Google Assistant voice commands
- You can now book an Uber or Lyft ride through Google Assistant voice commands.
- Google Assistant will even give you price estimations for multiple services and let you choose the cheapest option.
- The service only works in English at the moment, and only for ride-sharing services active in your area.
Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft have come a long way in a short amount of time. But the services are quickly becoming ubiquitous around the world, and it seems that Google Assistant wants to get in on the fun.
Starting now, you can use Google Assistant voice commands to book a ride through Uber, Lyft, Ola, Grab, and other ride-sharing services. Simply ask, “OK Google, book me a ride to…” and say your destination.
You can also say, “Hey Google, get me a taxi to…” and then your destination.
When you say those commands, Google Assistant will bring up a few options for you and give you pricing estimations for the services. Check out an example I just did below:
Myself, I prefer to use Lyft over Uber because Uber’s company policies and history of scandals pushed me away. In my case, I can also say, “Hey Google, book a Lyft to the Yale University Art Gallery,” and Google Assistant will skip the estimation process and simply pull up the Lyft.
This new feature is rolling out worldwide to any country that has a supported ride-sharing service. However, the voice commands only work in English for right now. Google says it plans to launch the commands in more languages “over the coming months.”
