Honor 8X global debut: What to expect
Most of the details about the new Honor 8X’s hardware are already out in the open, following the announcement of the smartphone in China back in early September. However, the handset is gearing up for a global launch in the near future, hopefully along with regional pricing information and launch dates. We’re also getting a closer look at the handset’s design as the handset prepares to make its way out to consumers.
Here’s everything you’ll need to know about the upcoming global debut.
What to expect from the Honor 8X
What we know so far is that the Honor 8X is a seriously big phone, offering a whopping 6.5-inch display and 91 percent screen-to-body ratio for plenty of screen real estate. There’s a minimal chin on Honor’s latest handset, with a bezel that measures just 4.25mm at the bottom of the display. This is thanks to the phone’s advanced chip-on-film (COF) technology and a patented antenna design.
COF moves the display controller chip from the bottom of the display (traditional Chip on Glass method) onto the film which can then be wrapped around the back of the display. The result reduces the border of the device by 1 to 2mm compared with traditional designs, hence the slim chin bezel on the Honor 8X.
With a 91% screen-to-body ratio and tiny 4.25mm chin bezel, the Honor 8X is all screen.
While we’re on the topic of displays, the Honor 8X is the first smartphone with an eye comfort mode certified by Tuv Rheinland. Tuv is a safety and quality control testing company based in Cologne, Germany. The two companies have teamed up to work on blue light reduction technology together. The Honor 8X’s eye comfort technology specifically targets 400 to 600nm wavelengths, allowing it to reduce the peak strength of blue light that can lead to eye fatigue and prevent users from getting a good night’s sleep when using their phone at night.
Other hardware specifications for the global models could differ from the Chinese release so far, so we won’t say too much more on that. Suffice to say that we’re looking at plenty of storage and a hefty battery packed into the Honor 8X. Official pictures released so far also boast a dual camera configuration on the back — a staple of Honor smartphones for a few generations now.
Fashionable, minimalist design is also a big part of the Honor brand’s appeal and the Honor 8X’s design is no different, boasting a familiar notched display and slim body. Huawei and Honor were quick to adopt notched designs and the look is clearly an integral part of the brand image now. The Honor 8X is also an incredibly thin handset too, measuring just 7.8mm thick. The back of the smartphone shows off a stylish 2.5D double textured aurora glass finish, accompanied by metal middle frame. The grated reflection effect is constructed from 15 layers, each reflecting light off at different angles. The phone will be available in blue, black, and red colors to choose from.

We will be covering the Honor 8X global rollout as it unfolds, so stay tuned for all the coverage and a closer look at Honor’s latest smartphone. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts about the new Honor 8X.
