Honor may release Magic 2 on October 31 to cap off an incredible month for Android

Honor Magic 2 event

  • Honor appears set to release the Honor Magic 2 on October 31.
  • The phone will have an all-screen design similar to the Oppo Find X.
  • We don’t yet know which markets the company will release the phone in.

Honor could be set to release the Honor Magic 2 — an all screen, no notch smartphone — at the end of the month. The news arrives via a Weibo user (spotted by SlashGear) who shared what appears to be official marketing material indicating the phone would be launched in Beijing on October 31.

According to the post, the phone will have an in-display fingerprint sensor, while SlashGear added that the phone is expected to have an AMOLED display and could be the first to use a graphene-based battery.

We first heard about the Honor Magic 2 in August at IFA 2018. During the short presentation, we learned that the phone will have a full-screen display with a front-facing camera hidden in a slide mechanism. While this is similar to the Oppo Find X, it appears that the slide mechanism on the Magic 2 is not mechanized. Instead, users will have to push upwards to unveil the camera.

During the same announcement, Honor announced the phone will use the Kirin 980 processor — the first commercially available 7nm chipset — and will be the first phone to use the second generation of the company’s 40W fast charge.

This all makes for what’s shaping up to be an impressive device, the only problem for us is that the Magic 2 succeeds the Honor Magic: a concept phone that was exclusive to China. If Honor follows the same path with this phone, people outside the country could end-up missing out on one of the brand’s best phones this year.

There is some hope, though. The fact that Honor presented the Magic 2 at IFA 2018 — in English —  suggests there is at least a small chance it will get a wider release than its predecessor.
