Hyper Boost announced: Here’s how Oppo plans to speed up your phone
- Oppo has announced its Hyper Boost performance suite for Android.
- The suite promises to improve system, application, and gaming performance on Oppo phones.
We’ve seen several companies tout system performance enhancements in the past 12 months, such as Huawei‘s GPU Turbo, and Xiaomi‘s AI-enabled system management in MIUI 10. Now, Oppo has stepped up to the plate with its Hyper Boost initiative.
According to the Chinese brand, Hyper Boost is a “full-scenario, system-level performance boost engine,” capable of allocating system resources according to a number of scenarios. It’s actually split into three sub-categories, targeting system, gaming, and application performance.
In the case of system performance, Oppo says it has worked with Mediatek and Qualcomm to optimize resource allocation. In fact, the brand says you can expect up to 31.9 percent shorter loading times in apps.
What about gaming improvements?
As for gaming-related tweaks, Oppo says Hyper Boost offers optimization for 11 titles thus far, including Honor of Kings and PUBG. The tweaks extend to network traffic as well, purportedly distributing traffic between Wi-Fi and cellular networks to reduce lag. The Chinese brand says it’s also worked with the likes of Unreal, Unity and Cocos to optimize their engines for the technology.
Unlike Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology, Oppo hasn’t provided any specific figures for performance gains with Hyper Boost. But at least Oppo’s effort seems to be compatible with more games than Huawei’s technology, which initially launched with two titles (PUBG and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang).
Finally, when it comes to application performance, Oppo says Hyper Boost delivers optimized performance for the likes of WeChat, Mobile QQ, and Mobile Taobao. We’ve asked the company whether they’ll add Western apps to the list of compatible apps, but we haven’t received a response just yet.
It all sounds a little pie-in-the-sky at this point, but we’ll be happy if Oppo can indeed deliver noticeable improvements with the technology.
We’ve asked Oppo for specific details regarding Hyper Boost, as well as a list of phones that will receive the feature. We’ll update the article if/when we get a response.
