Plex will bring you free web shows in the same way it brings podcasts
- Plex is launching a new Web Shows feature, which enters public beta today.
- Much like podcasts, Plex will deliver free web content directly through the Plex app on all your devices.
- You do not need to have a personal media library or a Plex Pass subscription to use the Web Shows service.
If you’re a Plex user, you probably use it mostly to stream your personal media library to your various devices. But there are lots of free features within Plex that make it more than just a streaming media player.
As an example, a new feature is launching today (in beta) called Web Shows. Using Plex Web Shows, you can stream free web content through the Plex app on every compatible device you own, including your Android phone, tablet, and Android TV.
Best of all, you don’t need to have a Plex media library or a premium Plex Pass membership to view web shows. Just download the Plex app, make an account, and you’re ready to watch!
With today’s launch, Plex Web Shows will feature content within a wide spectrum of genres, including food, home and garden, science and tech, entertainment, and pop culture. Some of the popular titles available now are Epic Meal Time, ASAPscience, Household Hacker, People are Awesome, and The Pet Collective. There will also be content from prominent brands on offer.
You might be wondering why you should use Plex to view this content instead of just hitting up YouTube or the sites where the shows are hosted. The reason is that Plex will learn what you like the more you watch and then suggest relevant content. This could lead you to discover new shows you may never have heard of before.
Ultimately, Plex wants to deliver your web content in the same way it delivers podcasts, making the Plex app your one-stop-shop for all your entertainment needs.
