Reigns, Game of Thrones will mash up for spin-off game (Update: Pre-register now)

Update, October 3 2018 (01:35AM): It’s been a while since Reigns: Game of Thrones was first announced, but we’re ever closer to its October 18 release. Super keen on getting the game? Well, you can pre-register on the Google Play Store right now.

The title is the latest game in the Reigns series, as players assume the role of a king or queen. The meat of the game has you making decisions via a Tinder-style swiping interface, affecting your kingdom’s clergy, military, economy, and population. You will die. A lot.

The big difference this time is that the title takes place in the Game of Thrones universe, allowing you to play as characters from the series. Intrigued? Then pre-register your interest via the Play Store link below.

Original article, August 23 2018 (1:39PM): We may have to wait several more months before HBO finally begins the final season of Game of Thrones. However, the long break may be more bearable in October, when Reigns: Game of Thrones makes its debut for Android, iOS, and PC (via Steam).

For those of you who might not be familiar with Reigns, it was first released in 2016 by indie developer Nerial. It basically combines a fantasy strategy game with, of all things, features similar to the Tinder dating app. You have to swipe left or right on a series of cards, which represent characters in a fantasy land. Your swiping actions will have effects on four different influences on your kingdom; its religion, its military forces, its money, and of course, its human subjects. Each choice you make will cause one or more of these influences to rise or fall; with your goal to keep them equally in balance.

Reigns became a sleeper hit and Nerial and publisher Devolver Digital quickly released a sequel in 2017, Reigns: Your Majesty, that added features like an inventory system and more. In a few weeks, the third Reigns game will make its debut, and this time the fantasy kingdom you have to control is none other than Westeros.

In fact, as described by Engadget in their hands-on preview, Reigns: Game of Thrones is something of a “what if” exercise for fans of the TV show. They get to see how the show’s many characters would actually rule the seven kingdoms. Yes, you can finally see how Jon Snow will rule from the Iron Throne, based on his character traits and your choices for him. Or, perhaps you would like to see Tyrion finally take control, or maybe Sansa, or even the bookish Sam.

The trailer and screenshots show that Reigns: Game of Thrones will retain the minimalist art style of the previous Reigns games. Hopefully, this game will keep the high replayability of the first two titles in this series. It will be priced at $3.99 when it goes live in the Google Play Store, iTunes, and Steam.
