Third-gen Chromecast and Home Mini “Smart TV kit” leaks

Google Smart TV Bundle Leak Reddit

  • A retail employee leaked an image of a new Smart TV kit.
  • The combo includes the updated third-gen Chromecast and a Google Home Mini.
  • It’s not clear which stores will sell this kit.

Over the weekend we saw Best Buy accidentally sell a customer an unannounced third-generation Chromecast. Now, a retail employee from an unnamed store shared a photo of a new Smart TV kit that includes the updated hardware and a Google Home Mini.

As you can see from the photo below that was shared on Reddit, the Smart TV kit includes last year’s charcoal Home Mini and the slightly redesigned third-gen Chromecast.

As Android Police points out, Google already sells a Home Mini and Chromecast bundle which is exclusive to Walmart. As the Redditor doesn’t state which retail outlet they work for, we can only assume that this kit will be replacing the outgoing Walmart combo.

Additionally, the current Home Mini and Chromecast bundle at Walmart sells for $74. As we learned that the updated Chromecast should keep its current price of $35, it’s likely that the Smart TV kit will remain at $74. Weirdly, that price is slightly higher than just buying a Home Mini and Chromecast individually, so we aren’t sure why you would buy the combo except for convenience reasons.

What do you think about the Smart TV kit? Is this something you might purchase for someone to help them start their own smart home? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
