  • T-Mobile quietly announced a new promotion that offers customers a $50 prepaid plan.
  • The plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data, but also features a few caveats.
  • T-Mobile did not say how long the prepaid plan will be available for.

Yesterday, Verizon tweaked its prepaid plans to make them more competitive with competing offerings from other carriers. T-Mobile responded with a limited-time promotion that offers a $50 prepaid deal.

The plan nets customers unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data. It also includes unlimited mobile hotspot at 3G speeds, though it caps video streaming on T-Mobile’s network at 480p resolution. Also, anyone who uses more than 50GB of data in a month might see slower speeds during network congestion.

We also do not know if T-Mobile will treat this prepaid plans like it does the rest. For example, we do not know if this prepaid plan includes 5GB of 4G LTE in Canada and Mexico, free in-flight Gogo Wi-Fi, or unlimited streaming from certain services.

Interestingly, you can only get T-Mobile’s new prepaid plan in-store for a limited time. T-Mobile did not say when this prepaid promotion will end.

Lastly, the $50 monthly rate does not include taxes and fees.

Even with these caveats, T-Mobile’s prepaid plan manages to undercut Verizon’s $65 prepaid plan. Keep in mind that Verizon’s prepaid plan includes unlimited international calling to Mexico and Canada, as well as unlimited international texting. That said, Verizon’s $65 prepaid plan does not include mobile hotspot while T-Mobile’s $50 prepaid plan does.
