OnePlus 6T Mclaren Edition announced: 10GB RAM, 256GB storage, faster charging

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.

Ever since OnePlus and McLaren announced a partnership, the entire tech world thought a special edition OnePlus 6T would be inevitable. Now, the two companies have held a launch event and, yes, we’ve got the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.

The McLaren Edition differs from the standard edition by offering 10GB of RAM, joining the likes of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Nubia Red Magic 2 and the Black Shark Helo.

The phone also offers 30 watt charging via a “warp charge 30” adapter in the box, with OnePlus promising a day’s power in 20 minutes. This is opposed to the standard model’s “a day’s power in half an hour” tagline. We don’t know what battery percentage we’ll get after 20 minutes, but if it’s close to the Mate 20 Pro‘s 70 percent after 30 minutes, then it’ll be in good company.

Other than these two changes, we’re looking at the same internals as the top-end OnePlus 6T. So that means Snapdragon 845 chipset, 256GB of storage, a 3,700mAh battery, in-display fingerprint sensor, a 16MP+20MP rear camera pairing, and a 16MP selfie snapper. And yes, the headphone jack is still missing.

Like phones from other OEMs, changes to the McLaren Edition are mostly visual, save for a spec bump or two. This special edition features a black carbon fiber design with “Papaya Orange” elements around the rim, starting fairly solid on the bottom and fading as it moves towards the top of the device.

The phone is supposed to be modeled after a McLaren MCL33, which isn’t exactly the best McLaren F1 car of the bunch, to put it mildly. Nevertheless, you do get a special in-screen fingerprint reader animation with some orange accents, but that’s about it for extra visual elements.

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will be available in Western Europe and North America from December 13, with wider availability expected thereafter. As for a price, you’ll need to splash out $699 to own this special edition device.
