It looks likely Lenovo will beat Samsung to first Snapdragon 855 phone
Towards the end of December, we told you about the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, a new flagship from the company that will sport a ridiculous 12GB of RAM, a sliding back design, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.
Now, via MySmartPrice, it looks like the Z5 Pro GT will land on January 29, 2019, as a China exclusive. If this comes to pass, it will be the very first smartphone on the market with the latest-and-greatest chipset. Notably, this will take the crown away from Samsung, which for years has had the honor of debuting the latest flagship chip on its own Samsung Galaxy S series.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will launch on February 20, per Samsung. Unless Lenovo pushes back the Z5 Pro GT release by a month or Samsung bumps up its own release (neither of which are likely scenarios), Lenovo looks to be the winner in this race.
It should be noted, however, that the January 29 launch of the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is actually later than the original date of January 24. So it is possible this launch could get delayed again.
It also should be noted that Lenovo has in the past made claims about an upcoming smartphone that turned out to be false. Last summer, Lenovo said the Lenovo Z5 would sport 4TB of internal storage and have an all-screen display, both of which weren’t true (it had 64GB or 128GB of internal storage and a big ol’ notch at the top).
It’s already January 14, so we don’t have long to wait to find out if Lenovo will stick to its promises this time around.
