Mobvoi smartwatches to get fall detection and new fitness features in new update
Mobvoi’s new TicWatch S2 and E2 made their debut just one day ago, and the company already has new details to share about both watches. At CES 2019, Android Authority has learned Mobvoi plans to roll out new safety and fitness features to the TicWatches sometime “soon.”
The new features — which are part of the company’s TicMotion software suite — should make their way to all TicWatch devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear SoCs, so they’re not exclusive to the E2 and S2.
The most notable safety feature making its way to the watches is fall detection, which will trigger an alarm and automatically notify your emergency contacts if it senses a sudden drop or fall. Apple also recently debuted fall detection on its Series 4 Apple Watch, but not many Android-compatible watches have yet to adopt this feature.
Mobvoi is also introducing its own gestures to its smartwatches, which will allow you to access Google Assistant with a simple wrist flick or even control a connected drone.
A personal trainer feature will also be added, allowing users to follow along with on-device workouts. You’ll also be able to set fitness goals and compare them with other TicWatch users around the world. This will certainly help TicWatch users feel like they’re part of an even tighter ecosystem of devices.
Mobvoi also told Android Authority its new TicWatch S2 has finally received MIL-STD-810g certification. The company was actually waiting on this certification when it announced the watch, so it wasn’t able to say anything during the announcement.
Initially, the TicWatch S2 and E2 were hard to differentiate between one another aside from their designs. Mobvoi claimed the S2 was for a user with more rugged taste, but now it has official certification to back that up and certainly brings more value to the budget-friendly watch.
