Best Micromax smartphones (February 2018)

Micromax used to be one of the top smartphone manufacturers in India. They offered a wide range of affordable smartphones and had a strong offline retail presence. Micromax has admittedly seen better days, having lost a sizable amount of its market to competitors from China and other parts of Asia. The company is once again focusing on the segment it dominated a few years ago and despite stiff competition, it does still have some great, affordable smartphones to offer.

Here is a roundup of some of the best Micromax phones currently available!

The flagship – Micromax Infinity N12

Micromax Infinity N12

While the word “flagship” is used for high-end and powerful smartphones from various OEMs, in the case of the Micromax Infinity N12, it signifies that it is the latest and greatest from the company. The N12 is still an affordable smartphone that is priced under 10,000 rupees, but it is by far the best that Micromax has to offer right now.

Micromax jumps on the notch bandwagon with the Infinity N12, with its huge 6.19-inch display featuring an 18.9:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage under the hood. The big selling point for this phone is its camera setup. You get 13MP and 5MP dual rear cameras and an impressive 16MP front-facing shooter that allows for the Face Unlock feature. Keeping everything running is a large 4,000mAh battery.

The Micromax Infinity N12 is available for just 9,499 rupees (~$133) on Amazon.

The budget-friendly – Micromax Bharat 5 Infinity edition

Micromax Bharat 5 Infinity edition

Micromax brings the 18:9 display aspect ratio to the sub-6,000 rupees segment with the Micromax Bharat 5 Infinity edition. As the name suggests, you now get an “infinity” display, but the rest of the specs stay in line with what you can expect from an Android Go edition smartphone.

The aspect ratio of the 5.45-inch display makes for quite a compact phone. The device is powered by a quad-core processor that is backed by 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. The camera setup is a touch disappointing, with 5MP cameras on the front and back. Impressive though is the huge 5,000mAh battery that will not only keep the device running for days, but can also be used as a power bank to charge another phone.

With the huge battery, excellent fingerprint scanner, and features like Face Unlock, the Micromax Bharat 5 Infinity edition packs in more than its price point of just 5,299 rupees (~$74) would suggest and is a great entry-level smartphone to choose.

Specs

  • 5.45-inch IPS LCD display with 1440 x 720 resolution
  • 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6739 processor
  • PowerVR GE8100 GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB built-in storage, expandable via microSD card up to 32GB
  • 5MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera
  • Dual SIM (dual standby)
  • 5,000mAh battery
  • Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition)

The ultra-affordable – Micromax Bharat 4 Diwali edition

Micromax Bharat 4 Diwali Edition

Like the Bharat 5 above, Micromax refreshed the ultra-affordable Bharat 4 series in 2018 as well with the Bharat 4 Diwali edition. The Bharat 4 Diwali edition is as entry-level as it gets, but its ultra-affordable price tag could be a huge positive for many.

The specifications are admittedly nothing to write home about. The device is powered by a quad-core processor, you get 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage, and the 5-inch display has a 960 x 480 resolution. It comes with a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing shooter and keeping everything running is a 2,000mAh battery. Like the Bharat 5 Infinity edition, this device also runs Android Oreo Go edition, allowing for data and space-saving apps.

The Micromax Bharat 4 Diwali edition is priced at just 3,999 rupees (~$56).
