This is the Xiaomi Mi 9: Expect a triple camera, cool gradient at launch

The Xiaomi Mi 9. Wang Xiang/Xiaomi

The Xiaomi Mi 9 is scheduled to launch in roughly a week’s time, and the Chinese brand has already teased a triple rear camera setup. Now, a Xiaomi executive has revealed the phone’s design in a series of shots on Twitter.

Senior vice president Wang Xiang posted three photos of the device on Twitter, showing off the triple camera trio, the bottom of the phone, and a full view of its back.

The last picture also shows off a rather unique gradient color, which seems to vary between blue, turquoise and green. It’s certainly one of the better gradient colorways we’ve seen on a smartphone, although I quite like Huawei’s Twilight and Vivo’s nebula gradients.

Xiaomi has also teased the triple camera setup on Twitter this week, suggesting that we’ll see a main camera, depth sensor, and ultra wide angle shooter on the Xiaomi Mi 9. This means the phone could be at a disadvantage for zoomed shots, but an ultra wide angle camera is ideal for group shots, landscapes, and city snaps.

Xiaomi will launch the phone in China on February 20, but it’s also revealed a February 24 event in Barcelona. The new phone is expected to pack a Snapdragon 855 chipset and an in-display fingerprint sensor, but the addition of a triple camera setup only sweetens the deal. Hopefully Xiaomi sticks to its aggressive pricing strategy and delivers a competitive price tag.
